non-Discretionary Asset Management, Financial Advisory and Family Office Services

External Asset Manager

  • PACES acts as external asset manager for clients to manage their investment portfolios via assets held at custodian banks

  • Investors will have discretion over such funds whilst providing limited power of attorney (LPOA) to PACES

Financial Advisory

  • If investors desire, they may engage PACES as their financial advisor whilst retaining execution by themselves

  • PACES may also act as an financial advisor on certain portfolios to other Portfolio Managers or Financial Advisors

Origination Agent

  • PACES may act as an origination party to other portfolio managers

  • This is typically for foreign jurisdictions or asset classes not specialized by PACES

Discretionary Fund

  • PACES is also managing a discretionary fund invested across portfolio of Equity, Fixed Income, FX and Commodities globally

  • Such funds may be invested in a client’s sub-account (managed account) or in a stand-alone structure such as a VCC

Family Office Services

  • PACES provides business development services for setting up family offices and appropriate holding structures as well as running of such structures

Aman Panaech, CFA

Chief Executive Officer

Aman has been in the financial sector for over 20 years in roles in fund management, investment banking, brokerage and advisory. He has plied his trade in United States, Hong Kong, Singapore and most recently in London

Prior to PACES, Aman held a position of Director at Commerzbank in the Credit Portfolio Management department in London (Dec 2015 – Dec 2019). In this role he managed around €5bn in investment opportunity and portfolio restructuring books. This included management of legacy structured credit positions, alternative investments, residential whole loan portfolio, and private equity.

Before this, Aman spent 4½ years (Jun 2011 – Nov 2015) as an investment banker in PACES and Co. Limited (London) with title of Director. This was a newly created business line initiated by Aman, focusing on Financial Institution Solutions and Asset Advisory. In this role, Aman helped restructure a number of derivatives heavy institutions including a major bond insurer, issued risk transfer transactions for clients and provided capital markets / asset advisory to Central Banks. Aman also advised on more than €200bn of AUM to clients.

Prior to this from 2009 to 2011, Aman was Head of Alternative Assets at a fintech start up Amias Berman & Co based in Hong Kong. Aman headed the desk for structured products and trading of defaulted claims.

Prior to Hong Kong, Aman was a Vice President in Bank of America in the US from December 2005 to March 2009. In this role Aman managed over $7bn in assets, predominantly in public and private credit. This included synthetics and cash bonds as well as heavy usage of derivatives. He also managed and designed quantitative system and credit reports to support business lines. Initiated firm’s portfolio advisory business as well.  

From January 2003 to November 2005, Aman was an AVP in ST Asset Management (“STAM”) in Singapore focusing on structured products and CLOs. Whilst in STAM, he helped ramped 4 CDOs and managed a leverage private credit fund. Prior to STAM he was a Junior Portfolio Manager at PACES Asset Management in New York. He worked on the emerging markets fund focusing on currencies and local debt.

Mr. Aman obtained a B.Sc. from London School of Economics and Masters from Columbia University and University of Edinburgh. Specializations were in statistics and financial mathematics. Aman is a CFA charter holder.

John Liow

Co-Founder and Chief Relationship Manager

John has been in the financial sector for over 20 years predominantly private banking roles. He is highly experienced in managing portfolios for Ultra High Net Worth clients

In the year prior to founding PACES, John assisted clients in establishing single family offices. Prior to that, John spent 9 years at Nomura Singapore Ltd as a Senior Relationship Manager in the Wealth Management Department. In this role, John managed a portfolio of Ultra High Net Worth clients for the bank.

Prior to Nomura, John spent 3 years Bank Sarasin-Rabo (Asia) Ltd, Singapore as a Relationship Manager in the Private Banking division. John managed to substantially increase his client base during his tenure here. He was also separately inherited a portfolio of branch and external asset manager (EAM) referred clients. Prior to Bank Sarasin, John was a private banking relationship manager at HL Bank Ltd.

John has also in the past was relationship manager to private clients at Citibank (1999 – 2001) and Keppel Tat Lee Bank (1995 – 1999).

Between 2001 and 2004, John left the banking industry to incorporated a start-up business, The Learning Loft Pte. Ltd. The business initially started off as a language school and tuition centre. It expanded its scope into placement of students outside Singapore (Indonesia, China and Thailand) into Singapore base schools and learning institutions. In 2004, John left this business to move back into private banking

John holds a B.A degree from National University of Singapore majoring in Economics and Statistics. Particular concentrations in Econometrics and Actuarial Science. John is fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese, Malay, Indonesian, Cantonese and Hakka.

Sng Tong Yew

Chief Investment Officer

Tong Yew has over 30 years working experience in the financial markets with his career spanning across Fund Management, Proprietary Trading, Reserve Management, and Investment Advisory work

From 2016 to Sep 2020, Tong Yew was Co-CIO and Head of Investment Products & Solution at Nomura Singapore in the Wealth Management division. In this role, Tong Yew managed the product universe, Discretionary Portfolio Services and devise asset allocation and strategies for clients. Prior to this, Tong Yew spent 6 years in RBS Coutts Bank Singapore (UBP) as Senior Investment Advisor. He was responsible for over $800m in AUM.

Before the financial crisis, Tong Yew was a fixed income portfolio manager. From 2007 to 2009 he was Head Portfolio Manager at Zais Investment Advisors (Singapore). Prior to this from 2002 to 2007 he was Chief Investment Officer at HVB Asset Management Singapore. In this role, he launched 3 funds and managed a macro hedge fund on behalf of the parent company.

From 1996 to 2002, Tong Yew held the title of Director in HVB Singapore. He was a proprietary trader on the credit trading desk. Tong Yew initiated jurisdiction arbitrage strategy across various Asian credit assets for the bank. He also streamlined the business to take on direct Asian credit risk.

Prior to HVB, Tong Yew was in Fixed Income sales at BZW Singapore where he also held title of Director.

Tong Yew started his career in financial services at the Monetary Authority of Singapore as a Senior Investment Officer in the Reserve Management Division. In this role, he managed approximately 10% of MAS’ reserves and he was also involved in the building of the econometric models that were instrumental to the Economics Department. 

Tong Yew graduated from National University of Singapore in 1989 with a Bachelor of Business Administration (honours); majoring in Finance

Ruth Yong

Chief Operating Officer

Ruth has over 20 years experience in front office, middle office and back office functionality including FX dealing, external audit, internal audit and compliance

Ruth has spent more than 8 years working in audit (including Internal Audit practices) and more than 7 years in the Banking arena with her career spanning across audits of financial institutions (Treasury, Credit Reviews, Trade Financing, Fund Management, Securities). She has also accumulated work experiences in a private bank and financial institutions dealing in trusts and foreign exchange trading.

She started her career as a Foreign Exchange Dealer before advancing into the Audit fieldwork performing External Audits with the Big 4 and then into Internal Audit Consultancy works. Her scope of work involved working very closely with the Management Board, regulators and legal counsels.

In her career advancements, she had been employed to setup a Retail Business, a Consulting Firm, a Trust Company regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore and most recently, a CyberSecurity Company. Her role and responsibilities spanned across planning business processes, working with the regulators (eg Monetary Authority of Singapore and the Commissioner of Charities) and the staff personnel, to ensure process feasibility, while ensuring strong corporate governance. Her responsibilities included documenting the Policies and Procedures for the companies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and financial reporting standards.

Marina Heng

Human Capital Director

Marina has been a versatile HR professional with over 10 years’ experience leading full spectrum of HR functions, business partnering, and project management for global organizations including Anglo American, BHP Billiton, and Infineum

Marina started her career as a Payroll Consultant before advancing her career into Human Resources. She has excellent stakeholder management skills focused on cultivating solid working relationships across organizational levels and cultures. Adept at assessing and anticipating HR related needs, and aligning employees’ performance and HR agenda with business objectives.

She delivers overall office support to business stakeholders with discretion and complete integrity while retaining quality standards. Focused on ensuring efficient office operations through effective management methods with demonstrated success in supporting diverse workforces of 200 employees with experience driving office management and project management, serving as liaison between senior management, customers, colleagues, and vendors for global organizations.

Excellent relationship management skills focused on cultivating solid working relationships across organizational levels and cultures. Adept at evaluating problems and devising practical solutions to ensure long term business growth.
